Therapy and Rehabilitation

Josephine provides on-site therapy programs as well as transportation for off-site clinical therapy. Josephine contracts with Aegis Health to provide trained and licensed physical therapists to work within our on-site therapy department.

The goal of our physical therapy department is to assist our residents in achieving a healthy and balanced lifestyle, and to help them maximize their skills and abilities. This includes performance skill assessments and customized therapy. The therapy department assists our residents in restoring their mobility, reducing pain, increasing fitness levels and endurance; all designed to help them achieve functional independence to the best of their ability.

The department cares for various ailments common to an aging population. Included are recovery from orthopedic surgery, post operative joint therapy, arthritis, recovery from amputations, joint mobilization, strength training, as well as recovery from cardiac and pulmonary surgery.

The photos on this page show how Josephine is using the latest technology to assist residents in their recovery and skills improvement. The Wii Sports computer software is used to improve dexterity and eye-to-hand coordination. It is rehabilitation and skills improvement in an entertaining and fun environment.

Other types of therapy at Josephine include pet therapy, whereby household pets are used for emotional and recreational enjoyment. Visit our Pet Therapy page to see pet therapy in action. Daily activities in the Programs and Pastoral Departments also provide residents with therapy. This includes weekly foot massages, hand care, individual counseling, and religious services.

At Josephine we are concerned about the physical as well as the mental and spiritual health of our residents. We offer care for the whole person - body, mind, and spirit.

Using the latest technology
for therapy

Leroy enjoys a game of golf using the Wii. He is sizing up the wind direction and distance!

With arm movement he swings the club! I think Leroy is practicing up for the next challenger!

Allen enjoys a game of baseball...and he's pretty darn good! Will it be a fastball or a curve?

Plenty of options for Josephine residents to expand
their dexterity and coordination skills!

Not many fastballs get by Allen! I overheard Allen saying "he loves living at Josephine"!
