Care for the Spirit

Josephine is a Christian community welcoming people of all faiths. We offer care for the whole person – body, mind, and spirit ... an excerpt from our mission statement.

At Josephine, Spiritual care personnel share the responsibility of keeping Josephine's mission statement and core principles foremost in our criteria for making decisions and planning programs.

The pastoral care team consists of one full time chaplain, and two part time chaplains who serve 3-4 hours per week. The team is present to listen as residents, family members, and staff express joys and sorrows; to encourage the healthy expression of those feelings; and to help people make spiritual connections with life events.

Specifically, the pastoral care team is involved in the following activities:

  • Interdenominational worship services every Sunday,
including Holy Communion once a month.

  • A Hymns & Devotions service every Wednesday.

  • Two Bible studies per week.

  • A Catholic priest visits to say Mass one Saturday per month, and is on call for ritual care.

  • Eucharistic ministers bring communion to all Catholic residents once a week.

  • The team makes routine visits to residents, paying special attention to staff and family referrals.

  • The team actively participates in the dying and grieving process of our residents and families.

  • Josephine offers space and staff for a simple memorial service and reception ... at no charge.
